A few impressions from our 3-day walk in the Nelson Lakes National Park.

On the first day, we only started at 5pm. But that wasn’t a problem, since we had to walk for only 2 hours before reaching the first hut: Coldwater Hut. That first day was easy walking alongside Lake Rotoiti. And we had the hut to ourselves – which was a first for us.

Day number two was more challenging: we went up The Cascade route to Angelus Hut – climbing for ~1000m – which meant walking uphill pretty much all day (for approx. 6 hours). So we were a little exhausted when we arrived at the hut. And the setting was truly rewarding!

On day three, we walked alongside the Robert Ridge Route, which – as the name already suggests – leads along a ridge with spectacular views to all directions. (I haven’t got much photos from that day, because I shot a roll of black and white film, which I haven’t developed, yet.)
