Neue Technik hilft uns, immer mehr Zeit zu sparen. Warum haben so viele Menschen trotzdem ständig “keine Zeit” und sind dauernd in Eile - wo bleibt also die gesparte Zeit? Wir könnten sie mit Ausruhen und Kaffeetrinken verbringen. Doch der Soziologe Hartmut Rosa meint: Wir nutzen die gewonnene Zeit nicht für Muße - sondern wir nutzen sie, um einfach mehr zu tun: mehr zu erledigen, weiter zu reisen, mehr Aktivitäten in unsere Freizeit zu packen.

On our last day on the Canary Islands, we took the early morning ferry from El Hierro to Tenerife, from where our plane departed in the early evening of that day.
Since it was perfect weather that day, we seized the opportunity to go up the Pico del Teide. The cablecar was operating and took us up another 1000+ meters from the rest of the national park to 3500 m and just below the peak. Since you need a permit to walk up the last 200 meters, we just walked around the peak a little. And this was quite a new experience: having never been that high up, walking at this altitude was pretty exhausting. My heart rate went up quite quickly after doing a few steps, especially uphill.

While we spent most of our time on the islands La Gomera and El Hierro, the first two nights we stayed on Tenerife. The day in-between was spent visiting Teide National Park. Unfortunately, we couldn’t go up El Teide itself – Spain’s highest mountain with approx. 3700m above sea level – because it was too windy and the cablecar wasn’t operating. But we nevertheless enjoyed the volcanic landscape of the national park, which is still at around 2000m altitude.

(Fortunately, we were lucky enough to have perfect weather on our last day on the islands, so in the end, we still got the opportunity to go up the mountain…)
